#1: South to Mt Conner

(visited by Bob Allan and Martin)

14-Oct-2012 -- Continued from 25S 131E.

This visit was part of "Damo's Confluence Trip". With only two of the original party of 12 left, and facing a potentially uninteresting drive from Yulara to Alice Springs, we considered which confluence we might pass. 25S 132E is very close to the old boundary fence of the defunctioning Angas Downs station. Satellite views suggested a track running along the fence, and this was indeed the case.

We followed the fence north from the Lasseter Highway for some 30 km before walking east for about 1.5 km to the confluence. We were able to walk mostly along the spine of a dune which was well covered by woody bushes. To the south east we could see the Kernot Range, and on the southern horizon, the flat topped Mount Conner.

After walking back to the vehicles, we headed further north, before heading east along unmapped station tracks, then to West Bore before eventually joining the road to Kings Canyon. We arrived in Alice Springs in time for dinner with friends.

The next day we returned the hired vehicle, then headed south on the Old Andado Track to Mount Daer, then on to Oodnadatta, Coober Pedy, then across to Tarcoola, Googs Track, and reaching the bitumen at Ceduna. We then headed east to our homes in rural Victoria and coastal NSW.
