23-Feb-2013 -- This confluence visit is the 13th out of a series of 15 visits in Malaysia and Thailand. The previous confluence is 16°N 100°E. It is in turn part of a 4-months bicycle trip starting in Tasmania at 43°S 146°E.
The previous night, I booked my return flight from Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่) back home to Zurich on my mobile phone - such process takes a while - such that I got to bed at 0:30 AM. The next morning I slept late until 6 AM (normally I get up around 4:30 AM) and got a late start at 6:45 AM. Cool mornings are a pleasant time for cycling and normally I try not to miss that period of the day.
However, I had to ride about 20 km from Tak (ตาก) to the confluence point. The first half, I rode along the Ping River (แม่น้ำปิง). Then I made the mistake to leave the nice road that followed smoothly along the river at the village Nong Bua Nuea (หนองบัวเหนือ). I soon was on sandy tracks and had to push the bike part of the way. When I finally got into the village Thung Kracho (ทุ่งกระเชาะ) (1.5 km distance to the CP), I suddenly reached an asphalt road again that took me up to 300 m to the CP. Another track helped to get within 100 m, where I parked the bike and walked over a meadow to the confluence point.
The confluence is on a little paddock - fortunately without livestock at the time of visit. But the ground was covered densely with cowpats. The ground is covered with some dry grass that has already been grazed. There is a fence in 20 m distance.
After the visit, I took the asphalt roads no. 1107 and no. 1175 back to the river Ping at the village Ko Taphao (เกาะตะเภา). Some impressions of the day were a temple and people loading a truck with sugar cane. I spend the night in Mae Pa (แม่ปะ) near the town Thoen (เถิน).
