#1: Overview

(visited by Karl Bryk, Heidi Peschl, Julia Peschl and Miriam Stern)

17-Jul-2013 -- This is visit 2 in a series of 5 CP visits made while on holiday in Sweden in July 2013. The previous visit was 56N 13E. The next visit was 58N 15E.

After a few days in Magnarp, up the coast from Ängelholm, we set off, heading North East towards Lönneberga and Katthult. If you are Austrian or German, these places will almost certainly ring some bells. Most Austrian and I think German children are brought up reading the Astrid Lindgren Michel books (Michel being called Emil in the original Swedish books). Lönneberga features often in the books and Katthult is the place where the Michel (Emil) films were made. The girlies wanted to visit the places and see what they were really like. On the way to Lönneberga we would pass 57N 15E.

Thanks to the car sat nav we found our way to a spot about 500 metres from the CP. It was a gorgeous day, and not being hungry or tired we all decided to go. A pleasant walk along a track and another 50 metres into the trees found us in marshy ground and at the CP. The usual photos were taken and a few minutes later we were back in the car and heading for Lönneberga.

For the record: we found no indication of the Michel stories in Lönneberga, but Katthult exists in its original form (more or less). There is a tourist gift shop and the whole thing is tastefully done and worth a visit. We did try to visit the Astrid Lindgren world in Vimmerby - thinking it would be a bit like Katthult. We knew something might be wrong when we saw the cars in the car park and definitely knew something was wrong when at the ticket office we were asked "1 day or 2" and "no, there is no 2 hour ticket". We declined and headed for 58N 15E.
