28-Sep-2013 -- This confluence visit is the first out of 3 visits that I made during another cycling week-end in Austria’s Alpine mountains.

On Friday evening, I left Zurich at 10:40 PM by night train to Vienna. But I already got off the train in Wels (located in Austria’s state Upper Austria) at 5:40 AM. At the station, I first had the two breakfast rolls given to me on the train. Since this was surely not enough to satisfy a cyclist, I had another 3 rolls at the just opened bakery. Meanwhile the break of dawn had come and I set off for the confluence point that was 17 kilometer south as the crow flies.

Over little county roads I came as close as 200 m to the confluence. From there, I was able to walk between two fields to the confluence point. Due to high fog, the sky was greyish. Standing at the confluence, I was able to see a farm house in 200 m distance. The ionosphere seemed to be calm around these morning hours such that the GPS receiver estimated a positional accuracy of 3 m. At such brilliant conditions, there is no need for a confluence dance – the GPS pointer shows always to the right direction instead of fooling the point searcher.

I continued cycling eastwards. Thereby I crossed over several little mountain passes. A highlight was surely the historic town of Steyr.
