22-Feb-2014 -- This CP was first visited in 2003 by Hans Augdoppler, who was the person who made the first confluence visit in Venezuela, and today we dedicate this CP to 18 years of project www.confluence.org

Some time ago we had looked for this CP in each of our trips to the Gran Sabana, we entered the imagination getting carried away with, but here the challenge was to permit entrance to Hacienda Costa Rica who for various reasons had not been able obtain.

Finally our friend and Radio Amateur colleague Eduardo Antonio Nuñes (YV6-ENA) who lives in Guasipati and is widely known in the area, made contacts with administrator Mr César Vásquez who granted permission to enter the farm.

Initially we called several friends from various locations of the country, unfortunately some of Maturin and El Tigre could not attend, leaving the group consisting of just 13 people in total from Maturin, Puerto Ordaz, Guasipati, and El Dorado. The most amateurs that started for the first time in a confluence hunt now were giving other use to their GPS, they had high expectations and enthusiasm for this new activity.

We departed on Saturday, 22 February, from Maturin and left early at 5:00 am: Heliodoro Fernandez and his daughter Jhoanny in his Toyota Fortuner, and myself with my two daughters and Arianny and Heleanny in our Eco Sport, took the road south. On the way there were several REGVEN vertices (cartographic icons) and near the toll Blanquero the centroid of our state.

The savannah was covered in a thick mist, we covered the 182 kilometers that separated us from the Orinoco river who is still impressive despite having its course low for the season, but appeared majestic and imposing, waited to take the barge to cross the river in the population of “Los Barrancos de Fajardo”. Waiting for the barge, meanwhile we had breakfast and got in contact via radio with the groups that came from Puerto Ordaz and South (Guasipati and El Dorado). Once we did the crossing which is always colored by the excitement of vendors and passengers, we arrived at San Félix where we reloaded fuel in an interminable wait which delayed the time we had scheduled for the meeting at the intersection of the road to the Palmar on the road 10 specifically in the “Parador turístico La Encrucijada”.

Upon arriving at the meeting point we waited for the group from Puerto Ordaz in their Honda Civic with colleague Antonio Aleman (YV6-DBH), his wife Ms. Aura German, and his two daughters Mary (YY6-MCA) and Marian, Antonio Eduardo Nuñes (YV6-ENA) in his Eco Sport and Cristhian Consuelo from Guasipati and Antonio Gómez (YV6-EM), who were driving a Chevrolet Luv from El Dorado. There Eduardo gave us some stickers of EcoRadio YV Group and showed us the banner for Ecological next meeting that will take place in the Gran Sabana.

Heliodoro proceeded to buy the hydration kit and departed in convoy towards destination El Palmar Farm Costa Rica where the CP is located. On the way Eduardo was commenting by VHF radio the various features of the nearby, manganese mines, farms, history, and very entertaining stories. We reached the entrance of the herd at 11:00 am, the gate was open and we drove offroad by way of the farm while we delighted with the fauna, cows (Bos primigenius taurus), buffalo (Bubalus arnee), egrets (Bubulcus ibis), terecayas (P. unifilis), and up spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus)!

We stopped at the main house, and took a path along a lagoon that would take us to the CP which was covered with weeds and offered their degree of difficulty to lower vehicles, so we decided to leave Antonio's Civic under a tree and the passengers were distributed to the other vehicles. A few meters further, we left the cars and were star hiking by a small trail that shortened us the way to the CP, which had bushes higher than the previous visits. We were all excited, it's hunting time (no matter if it was the first time or had experience), we got carried away by passion and adrenaline caused by the dance and slowly the zeros were captured around 11:30 am even though vegetation, thorny bushes, and some other Guaritoto (Urera baccifera).

The GPS that were involved in hunting were Nüvi(s) 850, 855, 205 and Montana® 610. After obtaining the zeros, we took photos and moved to an area with less bushes for the group photo. This time we were victorious, returned to the vehicles and celebrated the feat with the contents of kit, then returned the way home and said goodbye and decided to visit the area for the people of El Palmar, where a bakery sells freshly baked bread, and beyond the village there is a curiosity called “El Matrimonio" which is a union of a palm tree and a tree that grew around it. Later we moved to a river and had lunch with a good grill.

That day, everyone returned to their places of origin with the exception of Heliodoro and my team; we slept in Upata to leave early the next day after we had breakfast in the area.

We have left the seed to a new group of hunters who got the order to join in future adventures I leave a video that contains some moments of adventure, hope you enjoy.
