08-Jul-2000 -- Our second confluence. 53N2W was easy to find,
being some 150 yards off the A522 heading out of Cheadle, Staffs. As always
we asked at what we thought was the land owners residence ( a spooky old
mansion currently being renovated). This turned out not to be the case, however
he was very kind and interested in the project, he gave us permission to roam
around in the field at the back of the house, even though it wasn't his!
After 5 minutes wandering it was clear that the field we were in was not the
correct one. We had to ask again at Harewood Hall Farm, this time the owner
took a bit of convincing but eventually gave in.
A short whlie later we were bang on and I took the enclosed photographs.
The large green factory in photograph No 3 is the home of JCB excavators.
We walked back through the farmyard thanked the owner, pointed out the
exact location and left well satisfied with another confluence in the bag.
Coordinator's Note: Mr Ratcliffe (the landowner) would like any future visitors to contact him
before just turning up. He is not discouraging, just wants advance
notification.
