10-Sep-2014 -- The initial plan for our traditional week together was to cycle from Salzburg up to Passau and then to Vienna along the Danube. Unfortunately the weather forecast for the week was poor so we chickened out and decided to do our usual road trip instead.
An idea was to do the last 2 CPs in Austria that Michael had not done yet, namely N47 E13 and N47 E14. N47 E14 would be done first. So the Wednesday of our road trip found us about 1.4 km from the CP.
Its a long time since I had been there, 10 years in fact (previous N47 E14 visit) and we started on the wrong side of the stream resulting in a bare footed crossing - see picture. Once past this hurdle it was on towards the CP. Finding the best route was not easy - see the GPS track picture - but with a couple of
excursions through the trees we made it to the CP. Michael was by this time very unhappy with the walk - wearing Converse trainers, i.e. fashion shoes, is not the best footwear for the terrain.
The trip down was easier since we could use the GPS track to help find the shortest route so the trip down took a fraction of the time going up.
The next destination was the CP N47 E13, so Michael could complete his last Austrian CP but it was not to be. The weather was a mixture of rain with torrential showers and since up at the CP there was even a chance of snow we
decided not to risk it. Looks like it will have to be next year before he can finish Austria off !!
