(visited by Thomas Barthel)

30-Jul-2014 -- Three confluence points are located on the island of Sardinia, which is associated to Italy. During the summer holidays I took the chance to visit all of it. My third visit on the island took place at the northern end. The visited CP 41N 9E is located in the province of Olbia-Tempio, only about 7 km away from the coast.

The road SP74 leads through the village of Trinità D'Agultu e Vignola heading east, into the interior of the island. After some minutes going uphill and later at a height of about 480 m the GPS leads onto a smaller road. After 4.3 km I had to take an unpaved way, passing a farmer's field with some barking dogs. 300 m later the way ends in front of a small farm with some buildings on the area and an open gate.

As soon as I parked the car shortly before the gate, the farmer drove along, parked his car inside the farm, came back and asked me for my doing. I am not sure if he understood my explanations about the DCP, but he nodded in a friendly manner and told me that he had to go for cutting some plants. So we walked together the first meters to the CP, heading west, he with his secateurs and I with camera and GPS.

Now it was a nice walk along a path through the typical macchia, passing a watering place for cows/goats after about 300 m. 600 more meters and I stood only 20 m away from the confluence point, which was located behind an old, partly destroyed stone fence. The macchia with its circa one meter height was not friendly to my legs, but soon the pictures were done with a good GPS signal quality. On my way back I saw the farmer, still cutting some plants near his farm, further uphill.

So the visit to CP 41N 9E was completed quite quickly. On the way back to the paved road we saw some goats, relaxing under a hatchback of an old lorry, and harvested cork, loaded on a tractor. The tour continued heading northeast, to visit the windsurfing spot Porto Pollo and later to Corsica, to visit the CP 42N 9E.
