#1: The Confluence from 5 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

16-May-2016 – The story continues from 60°N 30°E.

Back home from our cancelled trip to St. Petersburg, we searched online for a spontaneous trip to anywhere. We found a good deal for a flight to Marrakech that left early morning the next day.

After spending the first day walking around in the old town, we rented a car to travel to various destinations outside of Marrakech. The first trip was to this confluence point. On our way (1 hour drive), we stopped in the town Sidi Bou Othmane (سيدي بوعثمان) to have Tajine for lunch. With filled stomachs we continued 5 km on the country road N9 towards the north until we turned westwards to the village Douar Lagroune (دوار الكرون) which is just 500 m south of the confluence point. Not expecting anything special, we continued northwards on sandy tracks over a flat plane of agricultural fields. Although the area was deserted, the confluence itself was not: we found it in a little compound with men at work. The compound included a little house with generator, machines, a truck, material for constructions, a motorcycle and agricultural equipment.

We first passed the whole scene and documented the confluence outside of the compound at a distance of 72 m. The reason for doing so was that I wanted to have a valid visit safely in my pocked before asking to enter the compound. Then I entered the compound on foot and asked for permission to take some pictures. The confused men let me do so although my mission wasn’t quite clear for them. After showing them my zero coordinates and taking another set of pictures, I said good bye and let them continue their work.

We also continued our trip. We went southwards passing by the city of Marrakesh and staying in the Atlas Mountains at Imlil (إمليل) which is at the foot of the highest mountain of North Africa, the Jbel Toubkal (توبقال) with a height of 4167 m.
