#1: Western Front

(visited by Rob Hans)

26-Aug-2016 -- I started this journey from Ronkonkoma, NY at 4:30 am with the idea in my head that nothing will stop me from reaching the SPOT! As I got closer to the area, my heart started racing a little bit, it was a beautiful cool morning with some cloud cover. Once I got close to the area, I knew right where to park my car (thanks to Google Maps)...

I jumped out of my car and what did I see but tall high vegetation! From all the previous visits I saw an open field with no issues to get to the spot. My first thought was just to jump on in and swim to the spot as quick as I can. Then I thought, no, slow and safe would be better, which is what I ended up doing...

Bugs and morning dew were all around me as I made my way following my GPS to the spot. When I hit the western number, I was very happy. The GPS zeroed out but I was still about 30 yards away from the northern number. As I made way forward I had stopped to take a look around: All was quiet on the Western Front until I heard this noise I never heard before... It was a BUCK screaming while running away from me. He obviously knew I was there, he jumped very high in the air as he ran from me.

I was now right within a few feet of the confluence which made me happy. I let the GPS zero on in and - BAM - snapped the money shot. I hammered in a marker I made for this confluence and snapped the rest of the pictures. For years I have wanted to do this and wipe it from my bucket list. I have to thank my brother Andrew for introducing me to this great project. Andrew himself has 2 confluence points he has hit himself.
