  30°N 82°W (visit #2) (incomplete)

#1: PFC Bishop on target

(visited by Roger Rockwell and Jessica Bishop)

09-Oct-2000 -- On 10/8/00 we had gotten an early start but were only able visit 2 confluences. We got to the area of 30N 82W about an hour after dark. Having the advantage of the information from the attempt buy J Proctor on May 20, I knew I would probably have to get some co-operation from the National Guard. With this in mind we spent the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Stark and got an early start on 10/9/00. We first tried to find a "backdoor" way into the target. There is a road called Woodbury Rd that runs between SR225 and SR 215 and passes with in a couple of hundred feet of the target. Entrances to this road were blocked by a fence and gate. The signs say Wildlife Management Area. So, as a last resort I contacted the guard at the main gate and gave him a brief explanation of my quest and dilemma. I was directed to SGM Ronald Watson and provided him the story. I was not making a lot of progress until I noticed that the SGM had quite a nice collection of soft drink bottles. When I related the similarity between two the idea clicked and the SGM immediately picked up the phone and said "get this man an escort and take him wherever he wants." PFC Jessica Bishop met me at the gate. I loaded myself, GPS and camera into her vehicle and away we went. With her having the keys to the gate made the rest of quest a snap. My thanks to SGM Watson, PFC Bishop and the Florida National Guard.

Coordinator's Note: This visit is marked as incomplete as it doesn't meet our photo requirements.
