21-Apr-2018 -- What a letdown. I had already visited this point almost 10 years ago, in June 2008, but decided to make a day trip (from the San Francisco Bay Area) to revisit it, to see if it had changed, and also in the hope of getting a drone’s-eye view of the area.

Alas, when I got to the gravel road turnoff from Highway 175, I discovered that - sometime since the previous visit to this point (by David Couture et al in August 2009) - the road had been gated shut, with a “No Trespassing” sign claiming that the road (Benmore Valley Road) was private. At this point, I was still 1.14 miles from the point.

I searched for a legal route to get to the point, by checking several roads behind the nearby Indian casino, and also off Old River Road (near the University of California extension) northeast of Hopland. No luck. Studying maps afterwards, I figured that it might be possible to reach the point from the north, via Ukiah (or Lakeport) and the "South Cow Mountain OHV Recreation Area”. But perhaps I’d find another “No Trespassing” sign there? I may check this out in a few months - so stay tuned.
