18-Jun-2017 -- The second Lithuanian Struve arc point I got to was the point with lyrical name Bereznyaki (English the birch groves). Like Meschkanzi it is an ordinary triangulation point, not an observatory.

It is situated near the village of Palepukai (Lithuanian Paliepiukai) of the Vilnius County. The easiest way to get here from Vilnius is by A3 road, aka Minsk highway. The coordinates are 54°38’N 25°25.7’E.

The point seems the tween of the Meshkonits point. The same UNESCO granite obelisk, the same white fence with a plate. And the same information board near it.

But if you look inside the fence you will see the differences.

Firstly eye is caught by the neat concrete pillar with a poor-readable plate GEODEZINIS ŽENKLAS – "geodetic sign".

And then you realize that geodetic mark is not hidden under the protective covers – nor metal neither glass. It is the copy of the mark of the Meschkanzi point – a round brass plate built into the stone foundation. But what does this foundation itself look like?

Exploring the additional resources gives an answer. The pictures of Bereznyaki‘s excavation demonstrate the form and size of the object that pins point location. It is a pillar of square section and about one meter long. Such a stretched stone parallelepiped completely drowned in the ground.

Nowadays this point is also used for geodetic measurements.
