07-Jan-2001 -- The success, elation and monumental reward that we felt having discovered 48N 12E the previous day suggested that we must make another attempt on a different Confluence point. Overnight there had been a considerable amount of snow and we left the warm confines of our house with a degree of trepidation: this point was rural and it seemed unlikely that the roads leading to the obscure reservoir where the point should exist would have been cleared. We drove through the snow and finally arrived at a deserted car park in the middle of nowhere. We followed the GPS to the predicted point and to our horror we walked under the thick fir trees typical of rural Bavaria. Signal was lost and we were unable to find the point. Tracks were retraced and we adopted the "lets just have a walk along the tracks" attitude -- neither of us fancied a difficult walk through the forest (my wife is 38 weeks pregnant). A lovely farm track was followed and remarkably the forest cleared, a wide open field was discovered, 400m to the point of confluence. We made it. 48N 11E is a friendly confluence point, about 2 km (as the crow flies) from a car park but easily negotiable by foot. Unfortunately the view was a little disappointing -- we may take some better pictures in the summer ?
