(visited by Roland Marz)

05-May-2001 -- I've visited this confluence on May-05-2001, 8:45 pm, after I've read an article in the magazine "STERN" about this hunting for intresting points with a map, compass and/or GPS: "Die Jäger der unsichtbaren Punkte".

My hobby for a long, long time is "map and compass", since x-mas 2000 a Garmin etrex is my best friend ;-) .

After reading this article my next step was looking for confluences near my hometown Hameln (hometown of the Pied Piper legend!). In my street-atlas I found a small town, Wendlinghausen near by Detmold, where I'll find the confluence 52N/009E. This town is just 40 minutes away by car.

I look on website and nobody visited this confluence before. Hurry up, I said to myself, it's the best chance to go. 35 minutes later I stood in a little village, called Hagen Donop, between Barntrup and Lemgo, 356 metres away from my first confluence. This last meters, without shoes for hiking, across country, through a little forest, over fence made of barbed wire, across a field, full of cow dung - all I wanted to tolerate. Now, only 100 meters to go, I saw a free field with only 1 mistake: a big hole/slope (40x80 metres), full with thornbushes and shrubbery, little trees, a little bit mud - upon my(!) confluence !?

Puuh..., I've luck! 10 meters behind this hindrance my GPS show the coordinates I yearn for: N 52 00,000´ / E 009 00,000´ !

The look from this point isn't very interesting but a little bit nice in the evening-sun and very nice if you have reached the goal (I hope firstly). But, what said an old philosopher or somebody who thinks like him: "Not the destination is the great fortune but the way towards you will find it!"
