01-Jun-2001 -- This confluence was harder than I thought. I thought it would be very easy
and straight-forward to get to.
I estimated that the confluence would be in the
middle of a field near to a road, but it was, in reality, in the middle of a
forest. Not that I would have cared, but I had begged a ride to near the
place from my girlfriend's mother and I wouldn't have wanted to keep them
waiting. If I had known, I would have walked there by myself, only
some 4 km from Lapua's Railway station.
I myself live in Vantaa that is
approximately 350 km away from Lapua, but I visit Kauhava every weekend,
because my girlfriend lives there and Kauhava then is some 20 km away from
Lapua. But anyways, back to the story.
At the end of the field I had to
walk through, there was a house, so I saw it appropriate to go to check
if someone's there to ask permissions if I could wander around the area looking
for the confluence point. There was one man with two dogs, but he didn't
own the land, but did live there anyways. I asked and got permission.
He also had a GPS and said he works in a group that goes to find
those who have gotten lost in the woods and they need a GPS so that they don't
get lost themselves.
The exact confluence location itself was not on anything
interesting, some moss was growing at the place, and unfortunately my
digicam ran out of battery and thus I wasn't able to take 360 degrees
panorama of the place, like I had planned to do. But it was interesting that
the confluence location is in a forest. There is not much forests in
Pohjanmaa region, mostly only large fields.
