#1: The confluence and Gergzdeliai behind

(visited by Jan Krogh, Vytautas Joncas and Algimantas Jakubauskas)

23-Aug-2001 -- 56°N 23°E is maybe Lithuania's most special confluence, because it is situated only 20.8 km west of the country's fourth biggest city of Šiauliai and just about 3 km east of the town of Kuršėnai. Therefore I contacted the main newspaper in the city, Šiaulių naujienos, and asked if they would be interested to explore the confluence together with me. They were very interested!, and journalist Vytautas Joncas and photographer Algimantas Jakubauskas joined me. The location is in the middle of a field just 280 meters north of the Palanga - Šiauliai highway, road number A11/E272, where it is meeting national road 203, just south of the village of Gergždeliai and southwest of the farmstead of Gaudziai.

We hoped it should be closer to a building, but it was not. Just on the southern side of the highway a WW II cemetery is situated. But the location is very nice, and the Šiauliai area has got one more attraction!
