26-Sep-2001 -- On a cloudy cool (58F at noon) September day-off I gathered my dog, Niles, and set off from my home in South Bend, IN to find 42N86W. In about an hour we were less than a quarter of a mile away. I spoke with the landowner's daughter who gave me permission to search the area and we set off through the pines. Niles was pretty excited because of lots of white-tail deer tracks. After about five minutes of getting the GPS to settle down we found the point of confluence and as the pictures show Niles is sitting at exactly 42N86W! Mission accomplished.

This is generally a rural area, corn and soybean fields (now harvested) lie between scattered woodlots. Small recreational lakes (between 40 and 1000 acres) are dotted around the region. Most residents are farmers with modest holdings or country gentlemen/women working in small nearby cities.
