16-Dec-2001 -- A great day today! My first confluence and maybe the first one discovered in the Dominican Republic.

We had only one day to find our way to the confluence, so we left Sosua at about 10 am. Our Garmin told us 99km to go and we didn’t know what to expect. We drove through a variety of landscapes: from pinewoods to rice fields. Even apart from the beaches it is a wonderful country.

It took us about 4 hours to get as close as 2,5 km to the confluence on paved roads. After leaving a little country road and getting stuck right in the middle of a pineapple field, we decided to walk. When we were ready to walk, I figured out that the confluence must be right in the middle of an orange plantation some 800m away.

To get there we had to cross a small creek and another pineapple field. One hour later we had made it!. We got pretty scratched up by crossing the fields, not to mention blackflies like crazy and an environment of 31 degrees centigrade with 80 percent humidity.

After taking some photos we headed back to the hotel, where we arrived.at 7 pm. We were very exhausted but I was very happy having discovered my first confluence!
