#1: The most interesting view was straight up.

(visited by Christopher Swan)

12-Apr-2002 -- This confluence point is located in the Ngaumu Forest which a Radiata Pine plantation under the jurisdiction of Juken Nissho Limited. Entry to the forest is by permit only, so I contacted the JNL Mill in Masterton and explained about the confluence project. The folk at JNL were happy to oblige and we arranged a time for me to enter the forest and locate the confluence point.

From the map I’d determined that I needed to get to a point on the flagstaff road, and then head into the forest for about 200 meters. Once I found the flagstaff road it became clear that it wasn’t in use any more and was actually blocked. However, to my surprise and delight I discovered that they’d just constructed a new road (even closer to the confluence point) and that the area had been recently logged and was relatively clear.

By my new calculation the confluence point was about 30 meters into the forest. Unfortunately there was quite a substantial bottom canopy and it took quite some thrashing around before I found the actual spot - fortunately the spot was close enough to the edge of the forest to get a reliable reading.

The most interesting view was straight up, but I snapped a couple of other shots just to be sure.
