08-Jan-2003 -- On January 8, 2003, after having visited my second confluence (8ºS, 37ºW), I decided to reach this confluence alone. For the first time I was going to visit two confluences in the same day. Pocinhos is located in the Cariri Paraibano region.

In between Monteiro and Pocinhos there is a public square amusingly called "The Middle of the World Square" (photo #7).

I arrived at Pocinhos around 2 pm and started to ask about a place called Feijó. I took the directions given to me and ended up in a farm named Fazenda Nossa Senhora de Fátima. This farm was 2800m away from the confluence. I asked some farmworker for directions and he told me there was another farm the way I was heading to, Fazenda Vermelha (Red Farm) and that I should better go round a small mountain and take the road known as "Pescoço de vaca" (Cow's neck) to get there.

So, more than two hours later and after having opened at least 20 barbed wire gates, I finally managed to get to Fazenda Vermelha. It was a big and desolated farm but fortunately the confluence was only 450m away from the main house. Vegetation was very sparse so it was an easy walk till the confluence point.

On my way back I took a different direction and I got to a city called Areal. My advice for anyone willing to try this confluence is to set out your journey from Areal and ask how to get to Fazenda Vermelha. It is very well known in the region.
