#1: confluence in the foreground

(visited by eckdor hofmüller)

24-Aug-2003 -- Only 17km eastward of the popular northicelandic fishertown Húsavík, where in 870 the first viking, the Swede Garðar Svavarsson overwintered, there intersect 66°north and 17°west in the heathland.

Driving by our “Jeep” Lada Niva we managed the bad 24km-long farm track, which brought us close to this confluence-point. Although the surrounding coastline is pretty interesting, the expanded inland heath offers only smooth hills, sparse tundra vegetation, sheeps, blueberries and stones.

By the way, a shorter farm track from the north, beginning at the farm Fjöll, is not passable anymore. That’s why we had to take the long track from the westcoast of Tjörnes peninsula. But anyway, it was fun, even though we had icelandic weather.

We are a just married couple from Germany working for one year in Reykjavik and took this point on our concluding journey.
