#1: CP 44N 77E

(visited by Gennady Sharov, Alexander Valdovsky, Mark Bokov and Yuri Malkov)

04-Dec-2003 -- It was a simple enough point, except for last hundred meters of course. We started our journey from Almaty and one hour later we reached Qapshaghay. The main road was smooth and beautiful but our GPS forced us to leave the main road and turn to the West. Thirty minutes later we reached the place nearest to our CP. CP was about hundred meters below, at the bottom of a steep slope. Here the gang of confluence hunters replenished with new members: Yuri and Mark. Welcome aboard, guys! CP 44N 77E is really beautiful point! It is bounded by rocks at three sides and at fourth side it has a scenic view to Ili River. After brief refreshment we made a visit to the Qapshaghay water-storage reservoir with the power station dam.
