12-Apr-2004 -- It was my daughters' Spring Break and time for another California Confluence Adventure! 36n-120w would be the first of 7 confluence attempts for this trip.
Northbound on Interstate 5, we took the exit to Kettleman City turned left on Milham Road and followed it west until a locked gate across the road at 36 00.553N 119 59.138W. This was 1650 meters away from the confluence and just beyond a house with a "Beware of Dog" sign. This gate crosses the road east of I-5 and must be in addition to the one described by previous visitors that is further west across I-5. Picture 1 shows this gate.
Not wanting to give up so easily, I decided to try the southern approach taken by Ross Finlayson. We went south on CA-41 from Kettleman City and turned right on Bullwheel Ridge Road and after about 200 meters at the top of the hill came across a gate with several locks and the dreaded No Trespassing sign at 35 58.064N 119 58.407W and 3807 meters from the confluence and is captured in Picture 2. Maybe another day this summer, I'll re-attempt the eastern approach after first inquiring at the house just prior to the gate.
Thwarted and disappointed from an unsuccessful attempt right from the start (to what appeared an easy confluence), we continued west towards
