29-Apr-2004 -- Passing Las Vegas to do some shopping, no gambling. 36Nx115W is within easy reach. No good street map though, made the attempt a little more time-consuming than expected. We found the right section of Horizon Drive in Henderson at last, and then it was rather easy to get to Mission Drive and the big quarry at the end of that street. The exact confluence was found uphill a small mountain, and when the Garmin etrex read 0.00 meters left to go, it was exactly above a cairn built by earlier visitors. Sorry to say, an aluminium food container was stowed inside the cairn.
We took the required photos and went back to Las Vegas to continue the shopping tour (astronomical gear for the June 8th Venus transit, they were out of stock on most items).
Recorded elevation was 788 m and the vegetation type desert-like, mountainous, with lots of rock outcrops.
Regarding the gambling: We stayed at the Motel6 hotel close to the Boulder gambling place. In the evening we heard a sharp sound that must have been a shot. After a minute or two, a single police alarm sounded. We thought it must have been a guy who just had lost his farm in gambling and shot himself.
After this we continued to Death Valley.
