#1: Looking north from cp

(visited by Hugh Knight, terry hay, John Bridges and rona hay)

06-Jun-2004 -- This visit was one of our more arduous ones in that we knew the only access to the CP was via an unmarked track which took us to within 12km of the point. It was obvious that the easiest way to get there and back was via motorbikes and although the direct route was 12km our bike odometers said it was over 20km each way. We had to deviate several kms out of our way to get around thick teatree scrub and with the usual grass tufts and logs to ride over,it became a long (6 hour) rough ride. None of us had ridden bikes for a number of years and I for one know that 6 weeks later my backside still feels the effects.

While in the area we checked out some caves and dolines which are marked on the map and these turned out to be uninteresting 50 metre long depessions in the ground. The next day we drove a few kms south to the Escarpment over looking the Southern Ocean, went down the Escarpment and drove south along the abandoned telegraph line to Israelite Bay and the 200kms to home (Esperance).
