02-Sep-2004 -- For the conclusion of our journey into the East of Turkey we still had 3 days in Chalkidikí to recover. A look at the map revealed a confluence point only 16 km in a straight line from our camping site. We wanted to make that the goal of the last day of our holiday. The point lies on the coast and after consulting our maps we decided it should just be on the land.

It seems that we had the help of a Greek building contractor, for the south corner of Sithonía was the site for a planned settlement. Not much work was actually completed and the site is falling into disrepair, but the network of roads, sidewalks, yard entries and stairs allowed to us to easily get within 1.2 km of the point.

We needed the next 2 hours to search for ourselves a way through the spiny shrubbery. Initially we could follow the nanny goat paths which lost themselves, nevertheless, over and over again. After a lot of scratches and with very tired legs we came to the point which lies only a few meters from the water.

The view from the point is actually completely nice. A few small bays, turquoise water, and actually one would like to take a swim. Unfortunately it wasn't to be - a further 2 hours later and we had worked ourselves back to the car.

It is recommended to future visitors to take a boat since the confluence point lies only a few meters from the waters edge. Otherwise thick, firm trousers!
