#1: View of the confluence looking west

(visited by Rod Kevill and Sandra Kevill)

16-Jul-2005 -- My wife Sandy and I had planned an extended long weekend trip from Perth to Shark Bay, and decided to travel via an inland route through Murchison. We camped the first night at the Coalseam National Park on the Irwin River, north east of Mingenew. Next morning we headed up through Mullewa and Murchison, then turned off on Butchers Track towards the coast. I had checked satellite photos and noted that there was a track parallel to the Gas Pipeline, then another much fainter track heading west passing just south of the confluence point.

We reached the first track in the late afternoon, then drove south and found the faint westerly track - very overgrown, but definitely a track to follow! We camped on the track with about 18km to go.

Next morning we proceeded slowly, with lots of dodging of bushes & trees, and about mid morning arrived at the closest point - about 450m from the confluence. A short walk in completed the visit.

After the usual photos, including one of the numerous emu foot prints, we retraced our path back to Butchers Track and continued to North West Coastal Highway, then on to Shark Bay for a couple of days of R&R.
