(visited by Ross Finlayson)

11-May-2017 -- During my visit to Saint Louis, I had a day free for sightseeing, so I decided to try visiting some Degree Confluence Points to the southwest of the city. My focus was on ‘Forgotten Points’ - i.e., those points that had been visited once - usually from 1999-2001 - but had not been visited since. I had hoped to visit three such points today, but persistent afternoon thunderstorms forced me to give up after visiting this first point.

I visited this point by taking I-44 to exit 226 (Missouri highway 185), then turning onto roads “N” and “W”, taking me into the beautiful Mark Twain National Forest. I first tried approaching from the southwest, but couldn’t find a road suitable for my rental car. So instead, I looped around and tried an approach from the southeast. I took "road 2268" to “road 2268B” at 37.99957°N 90.98788°W, then continued westward along this narrow dirt road. I parked at 37.99608°N 90.99868°W, where a doubletrack path headed north towards the point, about 1/4 mile away.

This point had been visited just once before, in February 2001. The visitors described a “Deliverance” vibe, and I got the same feeling - especially when I saw an old abandoned trailer located just off the road. I continued hiking north along the path, which passed just 400 feet west of the point. At this point, conveniently, an old road cut headed directly towards the point, which lies among downed trees, just on the side of the old road cut.
