#1: View towards North from Confluence

(visited by Frieder Dornseifer, Andy Neal, Russell Wards, Frank Oberlaender and Heiko Jopke)

English version

Deutsch

English version

17-Nov-2003 -- Highway 51, a crossing of the Rub` al-Khāliy desert along 51 and 50 degrees of longitude (Confluences 21N 51E, 20N 51E, 19N 51E, 20N 50E, 21N E 50)

The sixth day was Russell's, who really would have liked to come to this trip with his own car, but alas, it was in the workshop. With Heiko's car he had a suitable alternative to steer it to the Confluence 20N 50E. Directly at the edge of a dune our cars stopped and we reached the Confluence by foot. It was decided to have our lunch break right at this place. There was a light breeze on top of this dune and also a wonderful view over the dunes and lowland in front of us through which we had to find our way later on.

We just left the slipface a few kilometres behind us, when the radio message "STOP SOFT SAND" came up. For about another 30 km, it meant frequently digging, pushing, towing und winching.

Continued at 21N 50E.
