#1: The Confluence from 30 m

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

21-Nov-2012 -- The story starts at 43°S 147°E and continues from 32°S 152°E.

Two days after my previous confluence visit, the alert for approaching this one came up. From Kempsey (15 km beeline) I left the main road no. 1, which is anyway a very unpleasant road for cyclists. I followed the beautiful Macleay River until I reached the little village of Kinchela. Strong winds always came from ahead, slowing me down significantly. The trick to take the burden with ease is to accept it instead of racing to the bottom with anger.

However, after passing Kinchela village, I poked around a bit until I finally reached the little dirt track that took me within 160 m of the confluence point. Parking is right where a group of high trees stands out in the otherwise grass grown land. Walking over a cow paddock is easy. The confluence is on a floodplain of the river and the area is accordingly flat.

After visiting the confluence, I missed a bridge that would take me across Macleay River. So I followed the river 10 km further north, almost all the way to South West Rocks, crossed it there and came back on the other waterside. Then, I hit road no.1 again.
