#1: View from the confluence

(visited by Paul Garland)

10-Nov-2007 -- On Saturday November 10, 2007 the El Paso Texas Mineral & Gem Society had a field trip out into the famous Jornada del Muerto in Southern New Mexico, where so many people died of heat stroke and thirst during the 1800s.

We all met at the rest stop north of Las Cruces and south of Hatch at 9:00 a.m., then we drove many miles over dusty dirt roads to get to where us rock hounds searched for rocks.

Since we were within less than 10 miles, I went over to the confluence at N33 and W107.

I was able to drive to within 0.4 miles of it, but had to walk the rest of the way through the desert. Fortunately it was somewhat overcast with high thin clouds and the temperature was in the mid 70s F.
