15-Apr-2024 -- Leaving Amarillo, I made a detour to the South to visit this ‘forgotten’ Degree Confluence Point - last visited 20 years ago. Back then, the visitors’ reports suggested that the point was rather boring - lying just inside a farm field, North of (gravel) Hale Road. But more recent satellite imagery showed development along Hale Road, including an apparent RV (Recreational Vehicle) dealership located on the point.
And sure enough, although Hale Road is still gravel and very rural-looking, there has now been a lot of development (mostly ‘lifestyle blocks’) along it. And the Degree Confluence Point does, indeed lie within a RV dealership, just 60 feet North of the road. (I was reminded of the point 29N 82W in Florida, which lies just within the parking lot of a RV repair shop.)
Due to very strong winds, I didn’t fly my drone far - just up and down from the road. Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
Afterwards, I stopped by nearby Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, but I found it underwhelming; I do not recommend it.
