#1: View North

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

23-Aug-2016 -- Once again, the Degree Confluence Project teaches me new things. Before this visit, I had no idea that the state of Utah had a significant oil industry. But, driving south on paved and gravel roads towards the point, I saw several oil wells, and oil processing facilities. During my drive, I encountered several large vehicles coming the other way; should you visit this point, be sure to watch out for them.

Unfortunately, the oil wells end shortly before the Degree Confluence Point, which is in a rather boring flat plain, ¼ mile east of Sand Wash Road. All around, there’s nothing but scrubby grass, with an occasional cactus, sagebrush, and ant hills. (There’s an ant hill just south of the point.)

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
