10-Jul-2024 -- This is the 6th out of 10 reports visiting confluence points during a 10-day bicycle trip from Rovaniemi to the Norwegian Sea and back. The story starts from 67°N 26°E and continues from 70°N 25°E.
After a big buffet-dinner in the Scandic Hotel in Alta, I didn’t feel like going to bed, in particular because the weather was finally excellent after a couple of rainy days.
Therefore, I continued riding along the fjord for another 25 km westwards. On this stretch there are 4 tunnels. Just after the 4th tunnel I parked my bicycle at the main road (E6) at straight distance of 1.8km and a height difference of 450m to the confluence.
It was a wonderful hike. The first half of it I ascended steeply through a mixed forest. In the second half I hiked through the Fell, the high and barren landscape of Scandinavia.
I found the confluence just below a snow field with grass, moss and yellow flowers on wet soaked ground. It was almost midnight and the sun was shining 3 degrees above the horizon, still giving some warmth.
The total hike including return took me a little more than 2 hours. After the visit, I found a wonderful place to put my tent at 1:30 AM in a remote location directly at the Norwegian Sea. The sun was already rising and heating up my tent, such that I didn’t need a sleeping bag!
