#1: Confluence N55 E25

(visited by Fabrice Blocteur)

12-Oct-2006 -- Story starts at 37N 137E

I arrived in Vilnius a few hours after visiting the confluence 56N 27E. I had my bike checked the next day at the Yamaha service center. They couldn’t believe that I had crossed Russia with such a small bike. A 250cc is not the kind of bike people usually used to make a long and hard trip. But I like my bike. I’ve had it for six years and it has always taken me wherever I wanted to go. I though it would do the same again this time.

The following day was a very nice and sunny day, perfect to go for a small ride in the Lithuanian countryside. The confluence N55 E25 wasn’t too far away from the city and I was thinking of killing two birds with one stone by going also to the geographical Center of Europe.

I left at around 10 am and got on highway A2 for thirty km before turning east on a much smaller and more pleasant road. After setting up my GPS with the confluence point, it was quite easy to find it. As the previous one, it was located next to a village, in that case Avižonys, and in the middle of a field. And as the previous one, I didn’t bother to get off the motorbike to get to the point.

As I was starting to take pictures around the confluence, some boys came to pay me a visit. I tried a few words of English but they couldn’t understand any. However, Russian was OK although mine is more than basic. I tried to tell them what I was doing but it was too hard and I gave up.
