12-Nov-2006 -- At November 12th 2006, a motorbike riding friend of mine and me decided to visit 51N6E by motorbike. Even with a plain GPS (without navigation functions), the site was surprisingly easy to find. Of course, having had a look at the area from Google Earth did help in the final location ;) The area has a nice open view to the sky in the South, so EGNOS (WAAS for Europe) cover was available, allowing for a position error of 2-3 meters, instead of the usual 5-6.
The DCP lies about 13 (16, w/ GPS error) meters inside a meadow on private property. As we were there early on a Sunday morning, we decided not to wake up the people in the nearby farm to ask for permission, and we stayed at the edge of the meadow, as close to the DCP as possible. The GPS shot shows the coordinates, at 13+-3 meters (16, worst case) from the DCP. The shots in all directions are included as well. My friend also photographed me holding the GPS.
About 100 meters to the South-West, there is a German monument for the 51N/6E confluence. I have recorded the GPS coordinates of this monument, and I assume that its location is on a confluence, but in a datum other than WGS84. I will look into this.
