16-Nov-2014 -- This is the third out of 8 reports, describing confluence visits in South Africa, Swaziland, and Lesotho. The previous report is 26°S 30°E. The story starts at 26°S 29°E.
On our way from Jo’burg to Kruger National Park, we spent our first night in White Rivier. The next morning, we headed further towards the park, thereby passing through the town Hazeview. Hazeview has two things to offer: a
cultural village 7 km towards Graskop and this Confluence which is located another 8 km further along the same road. So we let the animals in Kruger Park wait another hour for our arrival and headed towards Graskop.
The Confluence is just 1 km from the road (as the crows fly). Parking was possible at 900 m (100 m along a forest track). From there a cut line leads directly to the confluence point. Interestingly this confluence point is one of those rare locations that can be reached by dropping down rather than climbing a hill. Climbing down along the cut line was partly quite slippery. Alternatively, the Confluence can be reached by following various forest tracks with a milder incline but therefore with a triple distance. We found the Confluence 10 m into an Eucalyptus forest. The edge of the cut line (most likely following a pipeline) is 10 m away.
Before we continued our drive towards Kruger National Park, we visited the cultural village where foreigners like us get a good introduction into the cultural heritage of southern Africa. We finally passed the gate into Kruger National Park and let the ‘wild’ animals pose in front of our cameras.
