30-Jul-2017 -- This is the 11th out of 13 reports reaching confluence points in Finland. The story starts from 61°N 28°E and continues from 63°N 24°E.
After a drive of 56 minutes from 63°N 24°E, we left the main road no. 58 (Kivijärventie) and drove to the end of the road up to a distance of 331 m. Here we parked at a residential house. An elderly lady greeted us with curiousness. Due to a missing common language, communication was restricted on gesture and facial expression. It was hard to explain the concept of confluence hunting – so we had to leave her believe that we were on a mushroom foray. But why of all things now and here under a heavy rain? It must have been strange to her.
The hike was wet – as expected. First, the hike went along the lake through a swamp. In the middle of it, we had to have a big jump over a stream. Then came a – for Finnish circumstances – “steep” ascend to the confluence point.
We found the confluence point in a sparse pine forest with a blueberry groundcover. The confluence was marked by a recently fallen tree. Nearby were many moss-overgrown boulders.
