(visited by David Coombs and Botir Dosov)

12-May-2019 -- Botir and I drove from Tashkent to visit his mother near Andijan at the weekend. I was surprised to learn that I had not inflicted any confluence hunting on him despite the fact that I have visited several points in Uzbekistan and one in Fergana. To rectify this we either had to go to 41/70 or 41/72. 41/70 was much closer to our route so we decided to visit it on the return journey.

The previous visitors used the old Russian map, but now with the benefit of their advice and online google maps we were able to turn off the road just west of Geolog and head up the hill on a dirt road. The road skirts an area of dachas and then emerges onto the grassy slopes above. The area was very green and with patches of wild tulips visible in the distance. Soon the heat will be turned up in Uzbekistan and all will turn brown. We reached the nearest point on the road and walked 400 metres to the point. We crossed a small dry valley and then walked through a wheat field before reaching the grassland. Botir led us to the point and after a little dance the GPS settled happily with all the zeroes. The point is on gently sloping natural grassland, as seen by the previous visitors - but drier under foot. The weather was perfect - warm and dry and we could look down on the town of Angren to the south-east. After returning to the car we drove back to Tashkent.
