03-Jan-2021 -- This is the last out of 8 confluence reports on our 11-day trip through the western part of South Africa. The story starts at 33°S 19°E and continues from 34°S 24°E.
We started confluence day with a costal hike in Tsitsikamma Park. In the afternoon, we drove westwards on the coastal highway 2, which misses this confluence point by 4 km. Phantom Pass Road took us close to the confluence, until we reached the Charlesford Farm & Butchery. Just when we entered the farm gate, I explained our mission to a man who appeared to be the farm owner. After I had finished my lengthy explanation, he just lifted his thumb and the permission was granted without a word spoken from his side. We parked near the farm gate at a parking lot in 450 m straight distance to the confluence.
We had a pleasant walk along the farm track until we reached the confluence meadow. Lush grass is growing on that field – no wonder, it is irrigated. A dense grid of sprinklers is arranged in such a way, that the grass can grow very well. Some of the sprinklers were turned on. Fortunately, not those at the confluence point – although I wouldn’t have had a problem to be sprinkled at while documenting the confluence because it was a warm summer day.
After the visit we spent the night in a town called Wilderness. The next day we had to drive back to Cape Town, were we finished our car trip.
