03-Jun-2023 -- On a visit to Iceland it should be possible to fit in a few confluence points. There are so many, and they are so close to each other. We drove around the island and tentatively aimed at some which were not too far away from a road, but the weather was not on our side. We had heavy rain and blizzards whenever we were in the neighbourhood of one.
Finally, on the north coast it cleared up. We followed the road ( 745 ) northwards and found that the best starting point was roughly half way between Hvalnes and Keta.
From the road to the confluence the old Garmin told us it was 750 m as the crow flies. As we were no crows it turned out to be a rather steep climb in very strong wind, so strong that it was necessary to climb on all four to the top of the hill. From there it was easier to keep the balance in the wind and the soggy terrain the last few hundred meters to the confluence point. It turned out to be in a small lake. Walking along the edge, the closest we got to the cp was 42 meters. The air temperature was six to eight centigrades, and a finger in the water confirmed that wading out into the lake was not necessary.
As so often before, the return to the car and road revealed a longer, but much easier track just a hundred meters further north.
The date on the old Garmin is wrong. I have tried to reset it, but have had no success.
