21-Jun-2001 -- Coming from
49N 18E, on our way to the
High Tatras Mountains we turned off at the town of Martin in direction south (SS65). At Koštany we left the main road to the southeast, to Belá-Dulice. This village is situated the border of the Veľké Fatra conservation area and dominated by farming.
The confluence itself can be found in Belanská Dolina (valley), close to the entrance of the conservation area, across the creek Belanský Potok. At the gate is a protection dam from where I started to search for the exact position. The local people of Belá-Dulice use this place as leisure area. Since this valley is surrounded by steep slopes it's close to climbing. I had to climb about 100 m through thorn bushes and loose stones. The forest was cleared for about 50 meters and afforesting is under progress.
After about 30 m I discovered a forest road that cannot be observed from the base of the valley. Because the confluence is situated just inside the dense forest in a very steep area it was very difficult to obtain a ZERO reading.
On my way back I used the forest road that led me deeper into the valley. This road is not suitable for standard cars since it must be accessed via a ford and is in some portions damaged by heavy forestry machines.
We left the Belanská valley and at Belá-Dulice we turned right continued to the Jasenská valley where we found the Penzion Jarabina, which we strongly recommend for accommodation. Nice rooms and excellent food for a very moderate price.
On the next morning we proceeded to High Tatras and furthermore to
49N 20E.
