#1: The view to the South

(visited by Francois van Wyk)

30-Aug-2002 -- This, the only point in the State of Qaṭar that is on land, was my first try at visiting a Confluence.

I started my trip at Ra's Laffān, the biggest LNG port in the world. Ra's Laffān is on the north-east corner of Qaṭar and about 111 km from the Confluence. Luckily the roads all led in the right direction and after a trip through al-Dawḥa, the capital, I was on the Salwā road that led to the border with Saudi Arabia and the Confluence.

Just after the little town of al-Kir`āna I had to turn right to the Confluence. Again my luck held, as this road was also tarred. About 4 km along the road I had to leave the tar and wander off into the desert. Lo and behold, 500 meters later I had found my first Confluence.
