#1: The confluence

(visited by Penko Roussev)

19-Sep-2003 -- Now I know why this land confluence on the territory of Greece has never been visited before. It was about midnight when I arrived at the peninsula. The route which was shown on the World Map I couldn’t find on the Garmin, so I thought it was because of the dense night. I stayed overnight by the seashore close to a very beautiful chapel of St. Paraskeva. Beautiful sea, amazing cliffs and … as the sunrise showed to me, there were hills hard to be reached. With every minute of the sunrise, the outlines of the slopes of the nearest mountain were getting more and more clear, and the GPS was pointing at this direction. I had no choice – I went in that direction. I was walking, but everything around me was on my way. I left marks for the rest of my life on my face and arms from the branches, the thorn-bushes from the not very high trees. You could see wool from wild goats and sheep left on the branches which were locked really tide. I left at 7am and at 11am I was on the top. But no road - bushes, strange rocks, probably created by a volcano at the bottom of a water area. I was still far from the place of confluence. Of course a descent was coming. The slope on the way down, turned out to be very steep. And all of a sudden, there was a precipice – about 10m in depth. But at least I found out how the wild goats and sheep feel like when they want to visit a confluence! It’s interesting to admit about the different aromas, which were following me on my way. I had the feeling that I fall among many small bottles of perfume from the collection of some collector. There was a particular spot, which I noticed with its strong aroma from the bushes, and perhaps this is what the wild goats and sheep have noticed too, because they had made their spot for resting. The confluence, as you may guess, was situated in the middle of the precipice, with surface extremely slippery from old leaves. For those, who will visit the confluence after me, I have left a surprise. Many thanks to my friends who made that trip possible.

PS. N38 59,957 and E023 00,804 make a turn to the right and let no fence stops you..you will know why, travel by jeep.
