19-May-2004 -- The road to the east of Ulaanbaatar crosses the Tuul river at the small town of Luun. We were passing this way on the way to a field visit to Kharkhorin – the location of one of our project seed farms and also one of the major tourist sites of Mongolia due to the large Buddhist monastery and remains of Chinggis Khan’s capital city. The CP lay 20km off the main road downstream. A road led nearly all the way to the point – we only had to decide whether to go to the left or right of a small range of hills lying in our path. The road veered left so we took the easy option.

With an eye on the GPS Erka was able to drive all the way to the point – we had to move the jeep after we got out to allow the GPS photo!

The flowers in the short Mongolian spring are wonderful as was the sun, skinkling (sparkling) on the river Tuul.

I celebrated 2 of my childrens'birthdays last week at 50N 105E today I celebrated Megan's 23rd birthday. I wonder if I can time another visit to catch Jennifer's birthday next month.

Then back to the main road and Kharkhorin.
