27-Jun-2012 -- As a family we have been interested in confluences for a while, since we discovered our first in June 2004.

In 2010 we headed across the Simpson Desert following the Madigan Line. We were travelling with Allan & Charmaine Foyle & their daughter Lee. We attempted to get to this Confluence heading NE off the Madigan Line but due to high fuel consumption due to very rough travelling conditions & time available we decided to turn back & continue along the Madigan Line.

But this year we decided to try from a different approach. Allan & Charmaine were able to come with us again. We travelled from Alice Springs along the Plenty Highway (dirt road)and after gaining the required permission & permits we travelled through Atula station and then along the Plenty river, and across the top of the Simpson Desert making our own tracks as we went just using our GPS & Ozi-explorer maps, approximately 110 kilometres in total without any tracks.

It was slow going about 10 kilometres an hour most of the time, but we had plenty of fuel & time & reached the confluence four days after leaving Alice Springs.

We encountered many wild Camels, Dingoes, Emus & lots of various vegitation & sand dunes, the Desert didn't look too much like a desert after two good seasons of rain. Luckily neither of us experienced any punctures or mechanical breakdowns.

We continued on to Birdsville travelling a total of 1,007 kilometres from Alice Springs. From our home town of Adelaide our total kilometres travelled in our 2 week adventure was 3,721kms.
