16-Apr-2007 -- On my way making a reconnaissance to find old trig points and benchmarks, I was happy to pass near this Confluence with my driver Sid Aḥmad `Abdallāh. It was not difficult at all in this dry season, and the point was 10 m south of a little dirt track, 700 m south-west of a small village called Taïba Rahamtallah.

The pictures north, east, south, west are not nice at all in this season where all is dry, but it is a huge traditional cultivation area (mainly sorghum),where all is green after the rain. However, near this Confluence, there are two interesting sites:

  • The Jabal Nawri, 6.5 km south-east, visible on the general picture of the site

The Jabal Nawri is a granitic peak on the flat clay plain, and it has Neolithic remains, like these elliptic grinding holes. It is also a refuge for wild-life, see this owl looking like an European church owl.

  • The Kenana sugar scheme, the largest in Africa and one of the biggest in the world

The picture of a canal irrigating the sugar-cane, is taken at only 900 m from the confluence point.

I hope I will soon to be the first on others Confluences in Sudan, there is a lot of work here.
