17-Aug-2004 -- This visit was one a number of confluence visits made during a short holiday to Marble Bar. My wife Sandra and I travelled there to meet with my brother John and his wife Mariane to look around the area, visiting some pools and old mines, and trying our hand at a little prospecting for gold and other minerals. At this time of the year, Marble Bar has cool nights and warm days (to 27°C), but this place also has the record for 160 consecutive days over 38°C (100°F) and is therefore regarded as the hottest town in Australia.
We followed an old track out to a small group of hills known as The Pinnacles, about 33km north east of Marble Bar. We left our vehicles on the track, and all four of our group walked the 1.9km in to the confluence. The walk was relatively easy with some spinifex and rock. The confluence point was on sandy/stoney ground with small spinifex plants and some scrubby trees and a small creek (dry) nearby.
