From the log of Saililng Yacht Anahera of Rye:
15th February 2004 Puerto Espanol
Back tracking my course of 14 years ago saw Anahera enter Puerto Espanol with light headwinds and another 37 miles of motoring. With a favorable current it was easy going. Looking at the barometer falling, Warm air and frontal clouds approaching I felt it would not be good for going North in the Le Maire straits against the wind.
We picked up a temporary mooring on a navy buoy and waited for the Northerly winds which came up as scheduled. Thankfully leaving the very unknown quantity of the mooring, we motored up to the Northern end of the bay and anchored in excellent holding. The anchorage is a bit roly but all the better for gently acclimatising everyone for the open sea. This wild anchorage is very much as I remember. The abandoned navy base is completely dilapidated but the ranch looks in good stead even though I cannot see smoke or a flag, it seems somebody has been keeping it up.
So far apart from burning more fuel than planned, it seems that everything is going well.
